Board of Adjustment
Certain uses of a property require a Special Use Permit granted by the Board of Adjustment. The goal of this approval process is to avoid adverse impacts of special uses on nearby residents.
For instance, a homeowner in an R-20 district could operate a day care center or a Bed & Breakfast, with a Minor Special Use Permit approved by the Board of Adjustment. For a complete list, find the part of the Durham Zoning Ordinance that covers the property's zoning, then see the Permitted Uses section.
