Durham Spatial Data Explorer
This City of Durham website is astoundingly useful. An interactive mapping service, it can be customized to show lotlines, topographical features, and a host of other characteristics. The map can be zoomed in or out. You can even click on a lot to learn its owner, acreage, and more.
- This view shows the entire county with streets. When you've zoomed in far enough, you can check the box to display tax parcels.
- This view is centered on the Streets of Southpoint Mall, with I-40 running from east to west.
- This view shows the Harmony Road tract with lotlines, 10-foot Topo Lines, and 1994 Building Footprints drawn in. Note that the homes in Hope Valley Farms are too new to appear.
Durham Zoning Atlas
The Durham Zoning Atlas is available online. These PDF maps are more cumbersome than web graphics, but they can be zoomed in to show detail. The zoning map is divided into sections for ease of viewing. Areas are color-coded to show zoning.
From the Zoning Atlas's title page you can click to view individual atlas pages. For reference, page 0718 shows the Streets of Southpoint Mall area and the intersection of Hwy 54 and 751.
Future Land Use Map
The Future Land Use Map, put together by the Durham City/County Planning Department, shows what the Durham 2030 Comprehensive Plan envisions for the growth of the entire county over the next few decades. It's BIG. See a small part of the Future Land Use Map, with links to the whole thing.
GoogleMaps
Have you seen the new interactive (and fully searchable) GoogleMaps? Here's a map centered on the Streets of Southpoint Mall, and here's the same area with satellite imagery. Click and drag the map to scan for your own neighborhood.
Durham Neighborhood Organization Map
The City of Durham's Planning Department maintains a Neighborhood Organization Directory — citizens' groups, homeowners' organizations, and environmental groups. There's also a Durham Neighborhood Organization Map showing their areas of influence. See a small part of the Neighborhood Organization Map, with links to the whole thing.
